Do you know someone who is committed to the mission of the MacLarenArtCentre, and who would bring valuable skills and experience to the board? The Board of Directors is seeking your input. Information pertinent to the nominations process follows.
Mission of the MacLarenArtCentre:
The MacLarenArtCentre is a not-for-profit art gallery located in the heart of Barrie, Ontario whose mission is to integrate the visual arts and culture within our community. The MacLaren promotes understanding and awareness by creating accessible means for visual arts to be an intrinsic part of everyday life.
The MacLarenArtCentre presents exhibitions within the gallery, and, in the larger community, as part of its ArtCity program. ArtCity places permanent and temporary artworks throughout Barrie’s public spaces. The MacLaren maintains a permanent, study-oriented collection in a balance of historical and contemporary art. Education provides the unifying link that activates our collection and exhibitions by engaging the hands, hearts, and minds of people of all ages.
Type of Board: Policy Board, which develops policies that set the course and direct the progress of the organization
Time Commitment: One Board meeting generally the last Wednesday of every month, usually two hours long plus participation on one standing or sub-committee. Time commitment for committee work varies but generally involves a two-hour meeting every other month.
Board Structure:
Officers: President, Vice-President, and Treasurer
Number of Directors: Twelve, two of whom are representatives of the City of Barrie
Term of Office: Three years. Elections are held every other year with vacancies filled by appointment.
